MEET OUR WEDDiNG PARTY!

MAiD OF HONOR My sister, Jacquelyn Lowe
Growing up wouldn’t have been the same without having my younger sister there beside me. Though our looks may make us seem like polar opposites… we share a common personality that has made for many interesting memories over the years. Though we’ve had our ups and downs – Jacquelyn has always been my best friend and the one that I knew I’d have standing by my side on my wedding day!

MY BRiDESMAiDS
Laura Wallace
Laura and I have been best friends since the first grade. When I was younger I used to say we were like sisters because we both had brown hair and brown eyes and we both had younger sisters with blonde hair and blue eyes. haha. Over the years Laura has become my “sister from another mother.” She’s the one I tell everything to and the one who is always there for me, no matter what. I’m extremely blessed to have her to call my best friend.

Megan Harr
I’ve known Megan since I was in the fourth grade. We didn’t become friends right away, but once we did, we were inseparable. Megan was the friend I probably spent the most time with through school, and the one who always had me laughing. She’s got a heart that’s hard to find in people today and a sweetness that is uniquely hers. She once earned herself the nickname “Pheebs” from the tv show Friends. If you can imagine having a friend as fun-loving as Lisa Kudrow’s character, you’d understand how thankful I am to have Megs as a friend and a bridesmaid.

Dana Amick
Dana and I met during the end of my junior year here at Berea. I was the captain of our intramurals basketball team and she was a free agent that got placed on our team. It wasn’t no time before I fell in love with her and her five year old daughter, Rori. I haven’t been one to make a lot of close friends while I’ve been in Berea, but Dana’s kind hearted and goofy personality has fostered a close friendship between the two of us. One that I am extremely thankful for.

TANNER'S BEST MAN Brock Brewer
Brock and I met in Berea, KY during an orientation preparing us for our first-year in college. Brock was a long-haired hippie from Pennsylvania. We decided to become roommates our first year and remained that way throughout our tenure at Berea College. Brock turned out to be the most kind hearted, free-spirited, best friend I could have ever imagined. Brock is the type of person that would offer you the shoes off his feet if you had none. He has dedicated his life to the betterment of the world and I expect nothing but phenomenal things to stem from his life work– wherever he decides to settle down.

THE GROOMSMEN
I’ve known Brian Heath, Jeremy Howell and Colby “Mean Dean” Justice for many, many years now. Beginning around the middle school years we began playing baseball together and traveled together on a few All-Star games across the state. Once high school came around, we became even closer spending our weekends in the woods and places we probably shouldn’t have been. Many friends come and go, but these three in particular will be around for a lifetime.

Brian Heath
Brian and I have been through it all. From baseball to football to landscapin’ to beach trips. Brian has always stood for what he felt was right and has proven to be a true friend for several years now.

Jeremy Howell
Although I may have taught Jeremy a few things throughout these years (or at least allowed him to cheat off my homework), he has taught me many valuable lessons in life. Jeremy’s easy going personality, “game for anything” attitude, and real-world knowledge has been an inspiration and enjoyment.

Colby Dean
Colby Justice is the man. Colby’s attitude towards anything and everything has always been positive. If there is anyone in this world I would want to “have my back” on any issue, it would be Colby Dean. He tells you how he feels and what he thinks and leaves you with nothing but respect for him. Tha man.

A little bit about the wedding

Our wedding will be in Berea, Kentucky - for two reasons. First off, it is the place where Tanner and I met – a place that will forever be dear to us. Secondly, Berea is almost a halfway point between both of our homes. So, instead of having it either in North Carolina or Northern Kentucky, we’re having it in between to hopefully better accommodate both of our families.

We are getting married this fall – September 26th. Neither of us wanted a very long engagement. We both figured if we love each other enough to make the commitment to spend the rest of our lives together… why not start as soon as possible! :)

Initially we had talked about getting married on September 28th. That is the anniversary of his parents' wedding – a marriage that we hope to model ours after. However, that day falls on a weekday, and a Monday wedding wasn’t exactly what we had in mind. So, we decided to have it on the 26th! This day is already a special one for us, because it is the same day that Tanner first told me he loved me! (yes, I’m weird like that and remember all kinds of silly dates!)

We will be married at Berea Baptist Church - where Tanner and I are members and have been attending together for quite some time. Our Pastor, Kevin Slemp, will perform the ceremony. We are currently engaged in pre-marriage counseling with him right now, and learning how to build a marriage that will last.

Soon-to-Be Mr. & Mrs. Jones

A Little Bit About Us!

THE BRiDE-TO-BE

My name is Jenna Kay Lowe and I am a 22 year old education major at Berea College. I’ll finish up my degree this December once completing my student teaching here in Berea and hopefully begin teaching shortly after.

I was born and raised a river rat of Carrollton, Kentucky – a small town on the northern part of the state line where the Kentucky and Ohio Rivers meet. I have three main loves in life. My Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. My incredibly handsome and ridiculously funny fiancĂ©. And my dysfunctional but uniquely loveable and extended family! Oh and… cooking, fishing, ice cream, massages, hunting, dogs, and Brett Favre. Ok, so maybe that’s more than 3 loves, but the latter are not near as dear to me as the initial three. I’m a big goofball, and love to make people laugh – I get that from my dad. I love kids and cannot wait to have my own some day! I love my church and the wonderful youth I get to work with through the youth ministry program. I hope to continue this ministry throughout my life, for I don’t think there is much that is more rewarding than helping the youth of today develop a closer relationship with our Lord. I love the outdoors and just about any kind of athletic competition. I played basketball from the time I was big enough to hold a ball, and even went on to play two years of collegiate ball here at Berea. Now days I spend my time running the courts and fields of the intramural leagues that Berea has to offer, and love every minute of it.

I have a lot of hopes and ambitions in life: to become a great teacher and truly make a difference in the lives of my students, to be a loving wife and mother to my family, to shoot a deer worth mounting on my wall, to catch a fish worth bragging about, and to eventually beat Tanner in golf! But perhaps my greatest goal of all is to help the ones I love most come to know the love of Christ. Above everything else that makes me, me, I am a Christian and I thank God every day for all that he has blessed me with. I try to be an example to those around me and want to be the best example I can be for my family now, and the one I will create with my soon to be hubby.

I could not be more excited about being a bride-to-be! Not many people are as lucky as I to have found the love of my life at such a young age. I know he will make me happy for the rest of my life, and I look forward to spending the rest of my life making him happy as well.

THE GROOM-TO-BE

Cory Tanner Jones – they call me Tanner. Born and raised in Waynesville, North Carolina in the eventful year of ’86. I have one older sibling; my sister, Brandi Blaylock. Brandi now has a lovely family of 3 – Husband, Shannon and their beautiful 2 ½ year old daughter, Lana Gracyn Blaylock. My parents, Matt and Cindy Jones, have all of my appreciation in this world for how they have raised me and the opportunities they have provided me. I will never be able to fully thank them for their unwavering, irreplaceable love.

I grew up in the heart of the Smoky Mountains where God, Church, hunting, fishing, and sports have all played a large role in my life. Memories from each one of those will remain in my heart forever.

After graduating from Tuscola High School as #2 in my class, or was it #52?…regardless, I was awarded a scholarship to attend Berea College in Berea, KY. Although it took a couple years to adjust, it was not long before I realized the small town of Berea was where God had intended me to be.

I was able to meet my lovely, beautiful, amazingly wonderful, soon-to-be wife my Junior year of college. Who would have ever thought… the girl I took fishing on our first date would one day agree to spend the rest of her life with me…amazing how God works, huh? I only regret catching more fish than her on that day –she still hasn’t forgiven me for that.

I'm currently employed by Berea College as the Labor Program Associate. I work with students and their supervisors on a daily basis; serving as a mediator if and when conflicts arise. The job is extremely rewarding day in and day out with the occasional day of not being able to tell someone what they “want” to hear. The experience I am receiving will no doubt play a large role in who and what I become in the future.

So far, my life has been enriching, rewarding, pleasantly exciting and eventful. However, I look forward to the day when I can call Jenna Kay my wife. Together, we hope to create a world of lifelong happiness and inspiration for ourselves and others…

The Proposal Story

A girl’s wedding day is something she begins dreaming of early on in her life. The proposal to get to that point is always something close to mind too. As a girl who has always wondered how that special moment in my life would be, I can honestly say, nothing that I ever dreamed of was as perfect as the memory Tanner gave me that day!

Perhaps the best part of it all, is that I had absolutely no idea that it was going to happen. Being a girl who knew what she wanted but wasn’t really allowed to mention the “M” word, I had given up on bringing up the topic of marriage. I had known for awhile that Tanner was the one for me, but was just patiently waiting on him to realize the same. I figured Tanner was so scared of marriage though that I had plenty of time to not worry about it. Boy was I wrong!

At the end of January Short Term, bad weather was sending us out of Berea. Tanner and I headed to North Carolina for the weekend. Initially, I wanted to go up north to my home, to see the family and enjoy a little sledding while we had the snow. Tanner had other plans in mind, so we compromised to spend part of wintry break in NC and the latter part in northern Kentucky. Little did I know that he had everything all planned out. I was just obliviously along for the ride.

On the morning of January 29th, I awoke like any other morning at the Jones’ household. I crawled out of bed about 9:00am to find Tanner and Momma Jones sitting in the living room watching tv. Tanner had already been up for while trying to get a hold of my Dad on the phone. He had repeatedly tried in the days leading up to that morning, to call my father and ask him for permission to marry me. Luckily, he finally was able to contact him that morning. And fortunately for me… Dad said yes! :)

Tanner and I planned to do a little hiking and mountain gazing that day, so we headed to the Devil’s Courthouse… just one of NC’s amazing lookouts of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Once we had hiked to the top, Tanner decided that he wanted to take a picture of us. So… we set up the camera on the mini tripod Tanner insisted on bringing along. I should have known something was up right then, because Tanner is never one very willing to take pictures. But, like I said… a marriage proposal was the furthest thing from my mind. Anyways… after taking the picture, Tanner noticed the battery light on my camera was flashing, so he figured if he was going to propose, and get it videotaped as he had planned, he better get to it. So, he hit the record button, ran down to me on the rocks of the lookout, and whipped out a tiny green box. I immediately froze and went into a completely astonished state of shock. As he dropped to one knee… the only words I could muster up were “Are you serious!?!” He followed by saying “Jenna Kay Lowe… I want to spend the rest of my life with you baby. I love you. Will you marry me!?” I, in a totally flabbergasted response, replied by half laughing, half crying. I had joked with him before leaving the house that morning that he was taking me up there to propose.. but honestly had no clue that was his intention. So before even saying yes I said “I was just joking about this!” After a bit more crying, jumping around, and Tanner asking “Is that a yes?” I finally said YES and Tanner slid the gorgeous ring on my finger!

Now I am engaged to the man that I know God created just for me and I have the wonderful memory of his proposal to not only tell people about, but to show them! I couldn’t have dreamt it up any better!

How We Met:

Tanner and I took a class together in 2007 – Consumer Decision Making. Tanner was a junior while I was a sophomore. Both of us were only taking the class to fulfill one of Berea College’s required credits, but lucky for us, the class turned out to be more beneficial than we could have ever imagined. Tanner and I never really spoke for most of the semester. Our only comments to each other were a “Hey Tanner” and “Hey there Jenna” in passing around campus. Then one day I gave a group presentation that Tanner was unfortunately absent for. Tanner, being the Casanova that he thought he was, emailed me seeking information on what he had missed that day (like he really cared what he had missed), and that was that. Shortly after, we had a test in the class, and being the nerd that I am, I created a powerpoint of slides to help me study. In hopes of helping others out, I forwarded the study aid on to some of the people I knew in the class and included Tanner. That email led to further emails and facebook messages. It didn’t take long for Tanner to realize that I wasn’t as big a nerd as I may have initially put on, but that I was an outdoorsy girl who loved to fish and may actually be a bit interesting. So, Tanner took the bait and asked me to go fishing one evening. The rest is history… we’ve been hooked on each other ever since! :)
